JULIE CHEN began Life Verse Design as a personal act of worship in 2007. While pregnant with her third child, Julie wanted to create Scripture art for her home as a reminder of God’s truth in her life. Utilizing her fine arts background, love of photography, and passion for typography, Julie began visually “illustrating” the Scriptures. Her Bible study encouraged her to sell at the little church craft show, and after her designs almost sold out she decided to open an ETSY shop online. Within months of opening her shop, Demdaco contacted her with a licensing offer and her art was distributed nationally from 2008-2012 as wall art plaques and crosses. Avalanche Publishing has also licensed her work for calendars.

Julie’s love of typography began as a book designer for Tyndale House Publishers. For over 15 years, she has had the amazing privilege to design books and if you follow her designs, you may notice some swirls and textures used throughout her career influencing her work at Life Verse Design. From an illustration standpoint, Julie most enjoyed designing The Jesus Storybook Bible for Zondervan. In working on the book, she was able to work with the amazing Jago, art directing him in the illustrations throughout the entire Bible. “If you do not have a copy, go pick it up!” says Julie. “It will change your life.”

LIFE VERSE DESIGN is truly a family business. Sam is the accountant, tech-guru, supply order guy… basically anything business goes his way. The couple’s three kids serve as Julie’s main inspiration and you will see them in many Life Verse Design images.

LIFE VERSE DESIGN desires to see God’s Word in homes throughout the world–both through our own artwork, as well as the use of Scripture by mission agencies working with those who may not be in a place to purchase Scripture as art.

We are privileged to donate a portion of every sale to support Wycliffe Bible Translators, Compassion International, and World Relief.
